Welcome!

Almost everyone is an expert learner in something, a sport, an instrument, a job skill, yet hardly anyone has been taught how learning actually works. This module fixes that, using the science of memory to show you how to learn anything (a language, a spreadsheet, a leadership skill) measurably faster and with far better retention.

You'll follow a single piece of information into your brain, encoding, consolidation, and retrieval, and learn why we forget so much so quickly (the forgetting curve) and what reverses it. From there you'll master four practical levers, the AGES model: Attention (single-tasking and focus), Generation (retrieving and producing rather than re-reading), Emotion (making it matter), and Spacing (reviewing over time). Along the way you'll name and replace the common myths, like multitasking, that quietly slow you down.

The module is deliberately experiential: a pre- and post-module survey, eight short challenges (starting with a "forgetting test" and ending with a 24-hour retrieval challenge), and a personal "sprint" applied to a skill you choose. It is recommended as the first module in the XVenture learning ecosystem.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how a memory is built through encoding, consolidation, and retrieval and why we forget.

  • Apply the four levers of the AGES model, Attention, Generation, Emotion, and Spacing, to learn faster and retain more.

  • Identify and replace common learning myths (such as multitasking) that slow learning down.

  • Use evidence-based techniques including retrieval practice, spacing, and single-tasking in your own learning.

  • Build and run a personal learning "sprint" for a skill you want to master, with spaced follow-up.
